Willy update

Well the year has started off with a so far 5 dr. appointments in 4 days. I’m glad, so far the dr.’s that Willy has seen have been quite nice. He was seen on Thursday by his new primary care doc and he was referred out to several specialists.

His legs were almost healed two weeks ago, but took a turn for the worse. He saw a wound care specialist on Friday and today and hopefully is on his way to getting both legs under control. One of his legs is about as thin as mine! I told him that they “Almost look Sexy!” LOL I’m so mean!

He saw the Nephrologist today, and for the first time since he’s been battling with this kidney disease he was told straight faced, point blank what was happening and what was going to happen.

Pretty much his kidneys are going to fail. He’s got anywhere from 1 to 3 years before dialysis. He was told to talk to family members to see if anyone was willing to give him one of theirs. Regardless of the severity and bluntness of this conversation Willy was so relieved to not have someone jerk him around. He was so tired of not getting answers from doctors and not being paid attention to. He was really comfortable with this doctor and is optimistic about the outcome of this whole situation.

He’s got so much fight in him, it’s really a relief to see. He’s lost about 30lbs since September and is really set on loosing the rest. He does need surgical intervention at this point but he’s not waiting for that, he’s doing what he can in the meantime.

I go in for surgery on Friday. It’s such a pain…because it’s painful!!! LOL I’m not looking forward to it but I really would like for one day to be able to sleep in my own bed. Because of the pain in my arms I cannot bend my arms or put pressure on them, like laying on my side. So I sleep on this bean-bag like thing that keeps me from laying on my side or stomach. I call it a bean bag but it’s filled with foam instead of that bean stuff. It’s VERY comfy but I really want to sleep like a real person again.

I hope to post another update before I go in for surgery. Maybe something funny or profound…instead of all this babbling.

Yay! BW got a straight answer! That is so exciting and encouraging! It's much easier to plan for the future and fight things when you know exactly what your planning for and what your fighting. It seems that your hope is paying off, that God had definately sent you in a new direction with healthcare to get new doctors and help with BW's healing. What a blessing! Just keep thinking positive about your surgery! Don't worry, and just look forward to our afternoon scraps when you start feeling better.
